Hackney Fixers and the ‘Restart party’.

Hackney Fixers holds regular events around the borough where volunteers help people learn about electrical repair by fixing items they have brought along. Hackney Fixers needs more volunteers with electrical repair skills to join their team helping at events, which typically last 3 hours. Although not strictly a bike repair workshop, I feel they do good work all the same and think they deserve a mention!!!

This is a great opportunity for DIY enthusiasts, IT specialists, those seeking a career in repair, or anyone looking for a hands-on practical way of helping others. They are keen to diversify their volunteer base and would also like to hear from you if you want to be part of the hosting team at their events. See hackneyfixers.org.uk for more information and to get in touch.

What is Hackney fixers? It aims to promote repair in Hackney as an alternative to growing mountains of waste and consumption.  As a joint project of Sustainable Hackney and Hackney and Tower Hamlets Friends of the Earth we were inspired by The Restart Project to run our first Restart Party in 2013.  Our events always include a Restart Party and most now also include a clothing repair workshop.

Since 2013 they have run events including restart parties, workshops for women and young people, school workshops, clothing repair workshops and an annual festival of fixing, The BIG Fix.  They have also started developing a map of places to get things fixed in Hackney.
